Welcome

I get my best sleep when I pass out on the sofa while watching TV with my husband. “But surely you know what poor sleep hygiene that is?!” you gasp. Yes, indeed I do. I also know that my husband sleeps like a rock and is hard of hearing, and ever since having kids, I sleep on high alert, convinced that he would never, ever hear a smoke detector, intruder, tornado, or any other disaster that may befall our family in the middle of the night. Our family’s life is in my hands, people. So if I can fall asleep while he’s still awake and able to fend off any threats, I do it.

This sleep is so deep and glorious that my husband usually can’t wake me up. At first he was concerned that I had experienced a medical emergency, but now he knows better and just heads up to bed without me. But before he knew better, he did succeed in waking me up once. I slowly sat up and groggily yet quite sincerely proclaimed, “I don’t know anything!” Not where I was, not what time it was, not why I was there, not if I needed to be somewhere else. Nothing.

And that pretty much sums up my life. Sure, I get things done, and I try really hard at life, but at the end of the day, none of us really know what we’re doing, do we? Even our best efforts can’t guarantee outcomes, whether we’re talking about parenting, work, marriage, health, education, whatever. So the purpose of this blog isn’t to tell you how to improve your life or have a Pinterest-worthy home because that would be false advertising in a really big way. Instead, consider it an invitation to have a laugh at my expense as I stumble through life, trying to figure it all out.

Oh, my name? It’s Kerry. I’ve been married to my husband Frankie for 11 years, and we have three children: Bug (5), Bear (3), and Boy (1). We reside in Frankie’s native Appalachia where he works as a pastor and I am a full-time pre-med student and periodic volunteer.
